Metafora Tuwuhan Dalam Budaya Pernikahan Adat Jawa

Abstract

Language and culture is a unity. When we interact with others in speech community, we use language which perform an index showing culture as a reflectection of Javanese ideology. Culture can be represented by story, folklore, proverb, or artistic product which lexical vocabulary is created by the needs of those speech community. Javanese community is rich of imagination and creativity, so the langugege they use is full of artistic product such as metaphor, proverb, and sound similarity. In Javanese wedding ceremony, there are a million of symbols which have meaning inside. They believe that those symbols will give a goodness in their marriage.  Key words: culture, Javanese wedding ceremony, metaphor, index, symbol.
